Good morning. Long time, no see.
Let’s start with a slow-ripening fruit, then we’ll get to the humans.
To my American ear, bletted medlars sounds like a slur an Irish grandmother might hiss, but it in fact describes the super-ripe state (bletted) of an ancient and once very popular, fruit (the medlar).
I’ve never tasted a medlar, or even seen one in person…
